I’m Vandana Teji, founder of The Unicorn People, a bootstrapped, fully remote HR outsourcing firm that has grown into a global partner for businesses across Asia, the Middle East, the US, the UK, Canada, and Africa. What makes my venture unique is its mission—The Unicorn People is run primarily by women from diverse backgrounds and career stages, many of whom are returning to the workforce after career breaks. With over 15 years in corporate HR, I saw a glaring gap: talented women often sidelined after motherhood, caregiving, or personal pursuits. I wanted to change that. Through The Unicorn People, I’ve built a flexible and inclusive workplace where women can thrive on their own terms. Here, careers are rebuilt, skills are sharpened, and confidence is restored—proving that women can achieve greatness at any stage of life. Beyond my company, I serve as President of the Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WICCI), Chair of the National Pay Parity Council, Project Head for Janitri NGO, and Head of the West Bengal Chapter of Embarc Care Foundation. These roles allow me to champion causes close to my heart—women’s empowerment, education, menstrual health, and economic inclusion. I’ve also been appointed by the Government of India as a Resource Person on Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) and serve as an External Member for several organizations. Since 2011, I’ve been deeply engaged in leading POSH investigations and ensuring workplaces are safe, fair, and dignified. I believe I’m not just building a business—I’m building a movement.
