Smita Sundaram is a highly accomplished academic with a strong background in agriculture and environmental science. She completed her graduation in Agriculture from the Institute of Agriculture Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, and pursued her Masters with ICAR, JRF from GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar. Driven by her passion for environmental studies, she embarked on a Ph.D. journey at the School of Environmental Science, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. During her Ph.D., Smita focused on critical areas such as climate change and biosequestration of carbon dioxide. Her research extended to exploring innovative methods to generate value-added products like biodiesel, biosurfactant, and sustainable biomaterials. Her contributions have been significant in addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable practices. Beyond her academic pursuits, Smita actively engages in identifying sustainable environmental practices to conserve the environment in various regions. She has conducted research and interacted with local communities in several villages of Ladakh, documenting their environmental conservation practices. Additionally, she has visited North East states and interacted with various tribal communities like Garo, Khasi, Jayantiya, and Missing tribes. She has documented the sustainable practices adopted by these tribes to protect their environment, shedding light on indigenous knowledge and wisdom. Currently, Smita Sundaram serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Studies at Zakir Hussain Delhi College. In this role, she continues to inspire and educate the next generation of environmental enthusiasts while contributing to the broader discourse on environmental issues. Her dedication and expertise make her a valuable asset in the academic and environmental community. Smita's work has a profound and positive impact on our understanding of climate change and sustainable practices, helping pave the way for a greener and more sustainable future.
